Scots cutting ties will make GPEW act on transphobia

There's a tendency in the Green Party to view us as the most "logical" or "evidence based" party, and you can see where that's sprung from. Where all other major parties have ignored the climate crisis, the Green Movement is the only one that was founded to deal with it and the only one with policy vaguely up to meeting the challenge.

The evidential superiority fades away when you look at our stance on High Speed Rail, we want to see a doubling of rail journeys but somehow building that capacity will not damage any biome whatsoever, cake and eat it.

So too with Transphobia, a problem which has wracked and wrecked the National party, making us a pariah whenever anyone states our policy, because what use is a policy if you don't act upon it?

It has gotten so bad that our Scottish sister party is threatening to cut ties, surely the best Green Party in the UK, with a motion being put to their Autumn Conference. And, with a great amount of sadness, I hope it passes.

Greens have been in the media for almost 50 years talking about the danger of the climate crisis and even with all the dangerous environmental decay we've seen people are only just cottoning on to this whole climate thing? The Scottish Greens cutting ties and publicly denouncing the GPEW is going to be the first step in the public intervention you do to your friend when they've screwed up beyond anything you would expect.

If no swift and radical improvement is seen, purging transphobes, rewriting our gaslighter's charter of a Code of Conduct, then Greens should take it further and seek action from the European Greens.

The Green Party of England and Wales needs to change, our trans inclusive membership needs to organise and drive out transphobes. Our Leadership need to change, they need to openly, and explicitly say that transphobes and “gender criticals” have no place in the Green Party. As a party we need to become more comfortable with calling out and naming problems bluntly and explicitly rather than ignoring and letting them fester, imagining that the Green Party is somehow without problems or bad headlines should be avoided at all costs. We need a proper new Code of Conduct that allows us to call out discrimination, bullying and harassment with no fear of reprisals. We need to adult the fuck up and get on with it.

-Update- 26/08/22

The Rainbow Greens of Aotearoa/New Zealand have released an open letter of support for the Scottish Greens action against GPEW.
